Marijuana use is common in the US and has been considered a recreational drug of abuse for decades. In the 60's and 70's, marijuana was depicted as the "devil's weed" and to give rise to "reefer madness", and subsequently scheduled by the Drug Enforcement Agency as a Schedule 1 substance. Fast forward to 2018 and we see a cultural shift in the perceived harms of marijuana, which have led to its all out legalization for recreational use or approval for medicinal use in more than 50% of the USA.
